Long time no see...

Ok so I know it's been a while but Im going to try this again. There has been so much going on that I have not really had the time to actually blog about anything. I have been doing a lot of hair and I will try to get those pictures up soon. I made a tutu dress for my niece's Kiddie prom and I will get that picture up as well. I was proud of myself for that outfit, it came out soo cute. I recently went to Kierra Sheard's Bold Right Life conference in  Detroit and it was amazing. Donnie Mcklurkin, Jonathan Nelson, Karen Clark Sheard, Janette ikz, Da truth, the BRL Detroit and Chicago choirs, and more were all there. I just had such a wonderful experience and look forward to next years conference. I will be getting all of those pictures up and I will try to post more often.

Action Plan... operation HKK

Ok, so I know that someone did not steal my idea...I just know that someone..did not.. steal my idea...! UGH! At least thats what I feel like. I have had this idea stirring for a few years now and I have an idea of how I want my salon to be and why did I ride home from church yesterday and ride by this childrens spa.. I am irked, not at them but at myself. I need to get on the ball and finish putting together my action plan so that I can get my salon up and running. Of course their buisness was no where near as "saucy" as I am going to have mine but still. I need to get off of lazy mode and get this up and running ASAP.

Crochet

So dont think that im being old but I love to crochet and make things! I will sit in front of the television and crochet for hours. I recently started making these owl hats after seeing a picture of one on etsy.com. My brother goes to temple so he wants me to make him a hat with the temple owl colors. He said that he would deffinately wear the hat too lol. I am going to hold him to it too. I started making up a lot of hair bows also. Especially since halloween is around the corner. A lot of times I will get my inspiration from looking at different pictures of things that other people create and I try my hand at it. I will post up picture of my newest creations soon. Tell me what you think.

Designs...no..I mean PaTteRns!

Ok so my nephew gets his hair braided about every 2 weeks. He has this thing where he has to have something extra going on with his braids. Keep in mind that he is 5. He can't just have straight backs, he must have what he calls "pat-ter-ens". So.. One big braid, one little braid, one big braid, one little braid.. and so on. Either that or crazy styles like spider webs or something like that. The crazy thing is you cant fake him out, he knows what he wants and will tell me in a heart beat if it is not the right "Pat-ter-ren". His hair is long so he likes to show off for his friends and lets it be known that he deffinately does not want a hair cut. Kids are small but they know what they want. I just thought that it was funny to here him fuss at me because his hair was not in the design he asked for, even though it totally was.. so I thought.

What do you think?

To relax our not to relax? that is the real question. I often find that some parents get very frustrated with their child's curly or overly curly hair and don't really know what to do with it. They think that relaxing their child hair is an easy fix to their problem of not knowing what to do, or how to care for their child's natural hair. I for one, can say that a relaxer is not always the answer. In my own opinion, relaxers actually do more damage to the hair. The hair seems to be harder and more brittle over time. Once you get a relaxer you have to stay up on it, otherwise you will have 2 contrasting textures when new growth comes in, which will only lead to breakage. It will become easier to care for natural hair if you do a trial and error period. Find out what works verses what does not work and keep your child's hair moisturized and conditioned....daily. Soo curly vs. straight, I say keep the curly. It's more versitile which equals more styles which equals creativity. What do you think?
